SaN VITO LO CAPO

San Vito Lo Capo has now become a renowned seaside destination in Italy and abroad. Many know the large sandy beach but ignore the surroundings of San Vito Lo Capo.

Indeed, the beach can be seen in many images, as is right given its beauty. Even the white houses of the village make San Vito a destination for thousands of tourists during the summer.

From Cala Mancina to Monte Cofano. The beauty of Santa Margherita Bay.

A few minutes from the village we find heavenly places such as Cala del Bue Marino, a stretch of coast with pebbles and crystal clear water. One of the best places to admire the sunset in a panoramic context of absolute beauty. Imagine Monte Cofano in the background and the sea taking on a reddish colour. Sublime.

Next to it we find the Spiaggetta dell’Isulidda, an enchanting cove where you can admire the caves on the surface of the water.

Near here we find the cliffs of Cala Mancina, a true spectacle of nature, rich in caves and with Dolomite colours. Paradise for climbing lovers. At the top is the Torre dell’Isulidda, a watchtower guarding this stretch of coast.

We are in the hamlet of Macari, one of the best places to admire the sunsets. Continuing in the direction of Monte Cofano we arrive in the hamlet of Castelluzzo.

Here we find other dream coves such as the beach of the bay itself until we reach Calazza. Then via a path it will be possible to reach the Monte Cofano Reserve.

From San Vito Lo Capo to the Zingaro Nature Reserve

From the village of San Vito, going to the right you will have the opportunity to reach other uncontaminated places, where nature shows all its beauty. Here too it is the ideal place for climbing lovers. We were saying, going to the right you will reach an area called “Tonnara del Secco”, a stretch of coast where the shallow seabed and crystal clear water makes everything magical. Here you will also find Lake Venus.

A natural swimming pool formed by the fall of large rocks from the nearby coast. The scenery is very suggestive both out of the water and below. Being very sheltered from the wind and currents, the main characteristic is that this body of water is almost always calm. The path to reach the “Lake” is also beautiful, in short, a magical place and recommended for snorkelling lovers. One of the best places to swim among fish. Here it will be an unforgettable experience.

We are already three kilometers from the village and have arrived at the Tonnara del Secco. Here natural beauty and history blend together. Now only the remains of what once remained remain, that is, a real tuna fishery for tuna fishing.

The Tonnara surrounded by the buildings of the owners, owners who comfortably followed the unfolding of the Mattanza from their terrace. The last slaughter dates back to 1969 but it is still nice to listen to the stories of local fishermen about anecdotes and curiosities of that time. In the Tonnara del Secco fish was also processed, in fact even today it is possible to find tools for processing fish. This place has been chosen many times as a location for cinema films such as Kefalonia and Viola di Mare. This stretch of coast is also suitable for swimming.

Continuing towards Castellammare del Golfo we will arrive in Calampiso, another corner of paradise. Here there is a resort surrounded by nature on a rocky promontory. We also find one of the most beautiful coves.

The beach is located inside the Village of Calampiso, known because it belongs to the Zingaro Nature Reserve, there are multiple accesses to the sea, both via raised wooden platforms and directly from the private beach, a wonderful sea for a perfect holiday”.

We arrive at the ZINGARO NATURAL RESERVE

The Zingaro oriented natural reserve is a protected natural area located in the municipalities of Castellammare del Golfo and San Vito Lo Capo, in the province of Trapani. Established in 1981, it is managed by the State Forestry Company of the Sicilian Region. The first nature reserve in Sicily.

Here there are no roads passable by car, only three paths. The coastal path, the mid-coast path and the high path. They are 7 km of absolute beauty between the green and the blue and white of the coves. As already written, the reserve falls in the territories of San Vito and Castellammare del Golfo and the coves are: La Tonnarella dell’Uzzo, the Cala dell’Uzzo and Cala Marinella, Cala Berretta, Cala della Disa, Cala del Varo and Cala Capreria.

Numerous submerged caves and tunnels, such as the Grotta del Colombaccio which widens into a 30 m large chamber, and also the Grotta della Corvina, Grotta della Capreria, Grotta della Mustia and Grotta della Ficarella.
A true paradise to explore for snorkeling enthusiasts.

And, among the paths and the Mediterranean scrub, in addition to the rural houses, there are Museums to visit: the Museum of Maritime Activities, of Rural Civilization, of Weaving, of Manna and the Naturalistic Museum. Places that preserve the local historical heritage.
